Ontario Block Parent Program

The Block Parent resources listed below are available for purchase only by the administrative committee of a registered Block Parent Community Program.

Orders will be accepted by email: contact Johanna Hopper at dhopper1637@rogers.com.

Effective immediately free resources are $20 per box for shipping, excluding brochures.

If payment and/or shipping fees are required, the order must be followed by a completed order form mailed with payment. Click here to fill out and email or download an order form. A SAFE PLACE FOR YOU AND ME 1 copy - For Grades 1-4 - 20 minutes - Produced by the Calgary Block Parent Association. This video features Kessie, an 11 year old girl, as she takes us through an average school day and some situations a child of this age may encounter. The protagonist, a strange looking character, helps make this video entertaining and encourages interaction with students. It is designed to show students how and when to use a Block Parent Home or Business, offers alternative safe locations and discusses personal and street safety rules. An instruction guide accompanies this video.
BE COOL, BE SMART, BE SAFE (DVD) 1 copy - For Grades 5-8 - 15 minutes - Produced by the Calgary Block Parent Association. This DVD depicts young people in various situations including internet safety, what to do when home alone, what to do if approached by someone showing strange behaviour, etc.
BLOCK PARENT SONG WITH SANDRA BEECH 1 copy - For Grades 5-8 - 15 minutes - Produced by the Calgary Block Parent Association. Teaches a young child about the Block Parent Program through the Block Parent song.
BLOCK PARENTS: HELP WHEN YOU NEED IT 6 copies - For Grades 4-6 - 10 minutes This video was produced to teach children in Grades 4 to 6 how the Block Parent Program can help them. In addition it teaches various general safety lessons.
BULLY BEWARE! TAKE ACTION AGAINST BULLYING 1 copy - 13 minutes This Video is comprised of 4 scenarios involving realistic bullying vignettes between middle school students. It offers students practical advice for handling difficult situations.
ELMER’S ROAD SAFETY VIDEO 1 copy (set of 4 tapes) - For Kindergarten to Grade 4 - 26 minutes This video introduces a new concept for children to learn Elmer’s seven safety rules – “Memory Power”. This updated approach of learning encourages children to be responsible to recall their safety rules themselves.
GROWING UP SAFE – STREETPROOFING 1 English copy, 1 French copy - 17 minutes This video was done by Del Monte to help teach children how to handle different situations, e.g. what to do when home alone, lost, etc.
1..2..3..BLOCK PARENTS AND ME 4 copies - 7:40 minutes This video uses puppets to teach children when to use a Block Parent home.
PARTNERS IN A CARING COMMUNITY 1 copy - 7 minutes The purpose of this training video is to improve the knowledge of the Block Parent Program within its partner Police Agencies. It is designed to inform all police members, but particularly those working in Crime Prevention, about the workings of the Block Parent Program. While the Program is volunteer operated, the more involved the police become in the Program the more effective it will be.
PSA’s – BLOCK PARENT 2 copies - 5 minutes This is a copy of 4 Public Service Announcements to use if your local television station would like to promote the Program.
SEEING IS BELIEVING 1 copy - 18:30 minutes This video deals with choices teens have to make in party situations regarding drinking and driving and shows the possible outcome when they make the wrong choice (mock car crash).
STAY ALERT…STAY SAFE 2 copies - 6 minutes An animated situation video about streetproofing. Featuring Bert and Gert, the Stay Safe - Stay Alert twins.
STREET SENSE 2 copies - For teenagers - 8 minutes This video makes our teens aware of what can happen to them if they make the wrong choice.
WHAT’S BLOCK PARENT? 4 copies - 22 minutes This video is particularly suitable for pre-school and elementary levels. It makes use of the antics of two clowns: Sneakers, who knows all about Block Parents and Yardley, who has a little learning to do with the help of youngsters in the audience.
KINSA - Kid’s Internet Safety Alliance (DVD) 2 copies - For parents - 28 minutes This video is designed to help parents better understand what their children are doing on the Internet and will take the viewer through some of the most common places that children access. It will explain to the parents how these areas work and some of the dangers their children encounter.
