Can Teens Use Block Parent® Homes or Businesses?

Yes! When in danger such as:

  • someone is following you in a car

  • a fight

  • alarmed by bullies, strangers or animals

  • if injured or ill


How Does a Block Parent® Home/Business Help Teens?

A Block Parent home/business provides a safe haven for teens who come to the door for help. If you are ever in a threatening situation, go to the closest Block Parent home. Look for the signs in your neighbourhood.


Can Teens Be a Block Parent®?

Yes! Teens can be a Block Parent if they are 18 years of age. If they are under 18 they can be a Teen Block Parent and assist other Block Parents in the Program. Teens can make the neighbourhood safer for each other.


What Is the Purpose of the Teen Block Parent® Program?

  • To teach teens to use the Block Parent sign and to inform the community that teens can use the sign.


  • To educate teens to be future Block Parents.

Who Can Become a Teen Block Parent®?

Teens who are between the ages of 13 -17 years can be a Teen Block Parent. Contact your local Block Parent organization, Police Community Service Office, or your school principal.


How Can the Teen Program Operate in Your School?

This can be done through your student council, school displays, school newsletters, assemblies, class discussion, posters and stickers, advertising in brochures and flyers, and school announcements.


What Can I Do in My School?

  • Be a Teen Block Parent

  • Be an active representative for the program

  • Be involved in your school community



How Can Teens Assist in the Community?

  • Teens are the best teachers for other teens


  • Teens can show each other that a Block Parent home/business is a "safe haven" for teens


  • They can provide a community service to others by becoming volunteers in the Block Parent Program and can:

  • help at parades, fun fairs, etc.

  • act as mascots



  • help with office duties and mall displays help at fingerprint and photo identification clinics

  • assist younger children and/or seniors in need by escorting them to a Block Parent home/business


Teens can also educate their communities later, as adults, teens can become Block Parents too!


Don't Be a Victim!

  • Use the buddy system and always tell someone where you're going.

  • Never enter or approach a stranger's car.

  • Never take short cuts or hitch hike.

  • Travel in well populated areas.

  • If followed, run home or to the nearest public place (store, office, library, etc.) and ask for help.

  • Report any incident to parents, teachers or a police officer.

  • Expect the unexpected.

  • Take care of yourself.

  • If you have trouble on a date go to a Block Parent home/business, or other public place.
