Block Parent® Conference 2011
This year the Ontario Block Parent® Program Conference was hosted by the Chatham-Kent Block Parent® Program and held at Oak’s Inn in Wallaceburg, Ontario. A total of 22 delegates representing 11 Community Block Parent® Programs enjoyed interesting workshops, productive sharing sessions, the wonderful humour of motivational speaker Meg Soper, delicious food and plenty of warm Block Parent camaraderie!
Those who were able to get away Friday arrived to a wonderful spread of wine and cheese. Saturday’s breakfast was followed by Meg Soper, a hilarious humourist motivational speaker. Meg left us with a number of practical strategies to use while dealing with the daily challenges we face.
Workshops included “How to Obtain United Way Funding,” and “The Big Buzz on Teamwork: Lessons from the Honey Factory.”
A delicious banquet was held Saturday evening, followed by the presentation of the annual Block Parent Awards. (Please see the newsletter for a complete list of winners.)

The decorations here included 13 tomb- stones, 6 of which lit up with ghosts and bats, and one lit up with flashing eyes. Some even had skulls, ribs and bones in them. The dreadful goul was motion sensored with lights and sound. A fog machine and scary witch sounds rounded out the atmosphere as the children headed to the door. Not seen in the photo is the crawling hand and talking candy dish with a hand in it.
